Recommended browsers & devices

Last updated 7 September 2026

Browser and device support changes over time. These recommendations reflect what Tidy supports and recommends as of 7 September 2026.

Tidy processes supported files on your device, so available features depend on your browser and hardware.

Browsers

Use a current version of a major browser for the best chance of broad local processing support.

  • Chrome, Edge, and Firefox: recommended on desktop for broad browser support.
  • Safari: works well for many tasks, but some media formats and encoders may be more limited.
  • Older browser versions may lack newer media APIs or codec support that Tidy relies on.

Phones and tablets

There is no single phone model that guarantees every feature. Performance depends on the device, browser, file, and operation.

  • Current iPhone and iPad devices using a supported browser are suitable for the features that browser provides.
  • Current Android phones and tablets using a supported browser are suitable for the features that browser provides.
  • Large video jobs can take longer or may be limited by available memory on smaller devices.

Computers

  • Recent laptops and desktops generally give the best experience for large files.
  • More memory and a faster processor can help with demanding video and audio jobs.
  • For the widest range of local media options, a current Chrome, Edge, or Firefox browser is recommended.

What happens if I don't meet these recommendations?

Tidy may still work. Some files may simply take longer to process, use more memory, or fail when the browser or device cannot handle the job.

Why this matters

Tidy is designed to process supported files in your browser instead of sending them to a remote server. That is better for privacy, but it also means your browser and device determine what Tidy can actually do.
